Everything you need to know

Reaching out for support can feel like a vulnerable step, and it is natural to have questions before we connect. Here are honest, straightforward answers about how coaching works, what to expect, and how to decide if this is the right space for you.

Frequently asked questions

Based in Burnaby, British Columbia and working with clients virtually everywhere, my practice is grounded in genuine empathy, thoughtful guidance, and zero judgment. Explore the answers below to learn more about our work together.

Do I need to have a major crisis to work with a life coach?

Not at all. A common misconception is that coaching is only for people who are struggling or need “fixing.” In reality, many clients seek coaching when things are already going reasonably well, but they want greater clarity, accountability, help navigating a career transition, better relationships, or support turning personal aspirations into tangible action.

How is life coaching different from therapy?

While both involve meaningful conversation, they serve distinct purposes. Coaching focuses primarily on personal goals, daily habits, decision-making, mindset, and proactive momentum. Therapy is designed to address mental health conditions, heal trauma, and navigate deep psychological distress. As a responsible coach, I always recognize the boundaries of my scope and will gladly refer you to a licensed mental health professional if clinical care is what you need.

What actually happens during a coaching session?

Coaching is not about receiving unsolicited advice or sitting through scripted motivational speeches. Instead, it is an engaging, structured dialogue. Together, we explore what matters most to you, uncover subconscious patterns holding you back, examine new perspectives, and co-create practical steps you feel genuinely confident taking between our sessions.

How do I know whether coaching, therapy, or going it alone is right for me?

Coaching is an ideal fit if you feel generally emotionally stable but are feeling stuck around a transition, decision, habit, or goal and crave structured support. Therapy is the healthier choice if you are experiencing severe emotional pain, trauma, or clinical anxiety and depression. Going it alone is best when you already have clear direction and simply need dedicated time and self-discipline to execute.

Where do coaching sessions take place?

All sessions take place online via secure video calls. While I am based in Burnaby, British Columbia, working virtually allows you to join comfortably from your own home or private space, wherever you are located.

How long are the sessions and how often do we meet?

Each coaching session is one hour long. The overall length and frequency of our partnership depends entirely on your unique goals, circumstances, and preferences. Some clients find clarity in just a few focused sessions, while others value consistent ongoing support over several months.

What happens when I reach out for the first time?

When you get in touch, we will arrange an initial conversation to talk through what is happening for you right now, what you would like to be different, and the type of support you desire. It is a relaxed, low-pressure space for us to get curious together and see if our personalities and approaches feel like a good match.

Do I need to prepare anything before our first conversation?

You do not need to prepare the “right” questions, draft a complete list of goals, or have everything figured out beforehand. There is zero pressure to make a decision or sign up on the spot. If coaching is not the right fit for your situation, I will be completely transparent and help guide you toward the right resources.

Ready to take the next step?

You do not have to navigate this chapter on your own. Let's have an honest, compassionate conversation about where you are and where you want to go.
